A Woman With Stones!...
...Finally, a Democratis leader I can trust. Thank you, Nancy Pelosi.
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on Pat Robertson's remarks this week that the United States assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez:
"President Bush must unequivocally denounce Pat Robertson's outrageous call for the United States to assassinate the President of Venezuela.
"At a time when the invasion of Iraq has caused such damage to the international reputation of the United States, the last thing we need is a prominent Republican advocating assassination as a foreign policy tool. President Bush must respond to the Robertson statement forcefully to make clear that his Administration not only understands the reasons why our law prohibits assassination, but is committed to following the law."
...the best man for the job is a woman.

Eric Alterman at Altercation...
...gets it right (almost ALWAYS) Mon-Fri.
Here's a little something abou the U.N.:
***********************************************************************************
"I see the editors of The New Republic are calling on Kofi Annan to resign. “The big question is whether Annan will insist on continuing to burden the United Nations with his presence or finally go and write his memoirs.” Here (sub.) I don’t want to spend all day on this but, in light of the catastrophe in Iraq from which Annan tried to save us, here is a short list of people who ought to resign, long before we start worrying about Kofi:
George W. Bush
Dick Cheney
Donald Rumsfeld
Condoleezza Rice
John Bolton
Every Republican Senator and Congressman and about half of the Democrats
Judy Miller
The entire editorial staff of the Weekly Standard
Tom Friedman
Charles Krauthammer
All of the “talent” at Fox News, and much of it at CNN, and MSNBC
Limbaugh
The editors and owners of The New Republic…"
*************************************************************************
OK, OK, I know the REAL reason the rethugs are pissed...
THESE GUYS DIDN'T STEAL ENOUGH MONEY!!!
Call it lack of initiative...ingenuity...whatever, but the attitude seems to be, "If you're gonna play...play BIG...or don't play at all." I just wonder how much that Texas Firm got for the Oil THEY sold (more here and here).
The guys at the U.N.?...only talkin' $170-180,000. Chump change, ya. know? Jeez...they can't do better than THAT? Get them OUTTA HERE!
makin' honest criminals like us look bad.

They're Gonna Run Out of Room in Hell...
...when all these assholes start showing up.
From Find Law:
(AP) - VATICAN CITY-Lawyers for Pope Benedict XVI have asked U.S. President George W. Bush to declare the pontiff immune from liability in a lawsuit that accuses him of conspiring to cover up the molestation of three boys by a seminarian in Texas, court records show.
The Vatican's embassy in Washington sent a diplomatic memo to the State Department on May 20 requesting the U.S. government grant the pope immunity because he is a head of state, according to a May 26 motion submitted by the pope's lawyers in U.S. District Court for the Southern Division of Texas in Houston.
Joseph Ratzinger is named as a defendant in the civil lawsuit. Now Benedict XVI, he's accused of conspiring with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to cover up the abuse during the mid-1990s. The suit is seeking unspecified monetary damages.
"the bushies, the catholics, the african dictators, the religious right...you tell me...where the fuck am i supposed to put 'em?" - (an obviously annoyed) Satan

Vacation, All I Ever Wanted...
...vacation, had to get away.
Maureen Dowd (@ the NYT)... she writes well so I don't have to.
"How could President Bush be cavorting around on a long vacation with American troops struggling with a spiraling crisis in Iraq?
Wasn't he worried that his vacation activities might send a frivolous signal at a time when he had put so many young Americans in harm's way?
"I'm determined that life goes on," Mr. Bush said stubbornly.
That wasn't the son, believe it or not. It was the father - 15 years ago."
message...i (don't) care.

"Treasury Secretary John W. Here's A Little Democracy...
...on the march in Iraq!
"KIRKUK, IRAQ - Set on an arid plain southeast of Kirkuk, Hasira looks like a place forsaken by time. Sheep amble past mud-brick houses and the odd sickly palm tree shades children's games. There is no electricity.
Yet along with 39 other villages in this region that Iraq's Kurds have named Germian (meaning hot place), Hasira and its people have become noted for presenting the first statistical evidence in Iraq of the existence of female circumcision, or female genital mutilation (FGM), as critics call it." (Christian Science Monitor)
lock up your daughters..oh yeah, don't let Santorum hear about it either
